Alphabet-owned Google is developing an artificial intelligence (AI) tool designed to take control of computer web browsers to perform specific tasks, with applications primarily in research and shopping, reports Reuters.

According to a report by The Information, the tool, codenamed Project Jarvis, is set to enter testing soon. It may also be integrated with the next version of Google's Gemini large language model, expected in December.

OpenAI, a Microsoft-backed AI firm, is also working on a model capable of conducting research discreetly through web browsers. With the help of a “computer-using agent,” this AI will be able to complete specified tasks.

Reuters reported that Google has not yet commented on the development.
